We are so utterly spoiled today – and yet food scarcity is coming – compared to an older generation who remember Dig For Victory and rationing that persisted for almost ten years after we won the war.

We take for granted the year round availability of what is actually highly seasonal produce, including much that has travelled epic food miles.

Our dietary regime has been widened, but not necessarily made more healthy, and several generations have now grown up amongst which millions cannot really cook an economical meal from scratch.

There should be a lot more food growing within schools as part of an holistic approach to teaching all children how to prepare healthy meals.

If you are interested in growing your own The Royal Horticultural Society has an excellent resource which is updated regularyly and tells you what you can do throughout the year

I’d be keen to hear your views.
