Most people will have enjoyed the popuar site “How does homeopathy work” on which you are presented with a simple statement “IT DOESN’T”. Â After the initial hilarious landing page visitors are refered to more qualified arguments about the use and effectiveness of heomoepathic treatment.

There seems to have been very little success in providing a scientific basis for homeopathy. I recall Nature accepting a paper from a French group around 1988 purporting to show that water retained a “memory” of molecules previously dissolved within it that had been infinitely diluted, and subsequently visiting the laboratory in question to observe the experiments they had reported being repeated, such was the barrage of criticism they had received. Unsurprisingly the authors of the paper were unable to repeat their results in controlled and observed conditions. The Professor leading the group remarked along the lines “Well, it always works when Jean/ Claude/Phillipe – whoever it was – does it”. Perhaps Jean/Claude/Phillipe wasn’t very thorough cleaning the test tubes.
